Untamed Spirit, Deep-Rooted Identity, and Unshakable Grace

At Equine Paths Learning, we are dedicated to rescuing and rehabilitating horses in need, providing them with a safe and nurturing environment. We believe in the transformative power of the human-equine bond and are committed to fostering responsible horse ownership through education and outreach. Our mission is to empower individuals and communities with the knowledge, skills, and resources necessary to care for horses with compassion and respect, ensuring a brighter future for both horses and their owners. Together, we strive to create a world where every horse is valued, respected, and given the chance to thrive.
We are delighted to introduce the newest member of the Equine Paths team. Kully joins us after a successful career as a Standardbred racehorse. For eleven years, he knew the steady rhythm of the track, the discipline of training, and the thrill of competition. He raced with distinction under the ownership of Howard Ouriel of Newberry Winner Racing Stables LLC, building an impressive record marked by heart, intelligence, and consistency.
When his racing days came to a close, Mr. Ouriel partnered with New Vocations Racehorse Adoption Program to ensure that Kully would be thoughtfully placed into a second career suited to his temperament and gifts. That careful stewardship led him to us.
Kully is stepping into a new role as an equine-assisted learning partner through Equine Paths and our work alongside the University of Alabama at Birmingham, serving veterans and other helping professionals. The qualities that once made him successful on the track—attentiveness, resilience, responsiveness, and heart—are the same qualities that now make him an extraordinary teacher.
Already, Kully is demonstrating a remarkable capacity to partner in this work. He meets uncertainty with curiosity. He approaches new environments thoughtfully. He remains grounded, even as he explores what this second act will require of him.
At Equine Paths, we believe that transitions matter. That endings can become beginnings. That the gifts developed in one season of life can be reimagined and offered anew in another. Kully embodies that belief.
His journey from racetrack to pasture, from competition to connection, reminds us that purpose is not confined to a single chapter. New beginnings are always possible.
Curiosity can be contagious. And sometimes love has a way of finding us exactly when we need it.
We are honored to steward Kully into this next season. We are grateful to those who cared for him so well in his first career. And we are overjoyed to welcome him fully into the Equine Paths herd.
Welcome home, Kully. The work ahead is meaningful, and we are so glad to walk it with you.

At Equine Paths, we honor the courage and sacrifice of veterans and first responders by offering custom-designed equine sessions that foster healing, clarity, and connection. Whether in small groups or one-on-one, our team of chaplains, educators, and horse trainers creates safe, soul-centered spaces where participants can breathe deeply, listen inwardly, and rediscover strength through partnership with horses.
Each session is tailored to meet the unique needs of those who carry invisible burdens—offering not therapy, but presence, purpose, and the quiet wisdom of the herd.
We were honored to host participants from the UAB Veteran Entrepreneur Program, whose resilience and leadership brought depth to every interaction. Through groundwork, reflection, and shared stories, these veterans explored new ways of leading with integrity—both in business and in life. The horses met them with honesty and grace, mirroring the kind of grounded courage that defines their service.
